James Kao makes paintings and drawings that present the child-like, animal-like and angelic sensibilities that underlie our world. His artistic practice is rooted in direct observation, and he finds comfort in the way sounds fade and time slows when looking dominates the senses. When Kao’s perception of the world diverges from his envisioned world, however, his practice shifts from observation to invention. Kao shares documentation of his artistic production and comments on his evolving practice.
